Summer Computing Institute / Rhode Island

The EAST/URI Summer Computing Institute was a big success!

The Rhode Island High School Science Camps was held on the University of Rhode Island Campus in collaboration with EAST, the University of Washington, and the AccessComputing Alliance. URI hosted three days of fun with hands-on, interactive activities for high school students with disabilities who have an academic interest in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.

Under the direction of Dr. Ying Sun students were brought to the laboratory facilities of URI Electrical and Biomedical Engineering Department programs.

Over the three days there were four projects:
Robot dinosaur
T-shirt printing
Micro controller based traffic light controls
LED flashlight

Almost all the students finished all four projects. I was very proud of them because the projects are not easy and require a lot of focus and dexterity. It was also a very positive and pleasant experience for me and my students to work with these young people.
